UX CASE STUDY > twoActive
twoActive
An app, bringing people together for sports activities

Introduction
I am a passionate runner, cyclist and hiker and I really enjoy doing these activities in company. However, quite often I am practicing alone because my friends cannot participate. Still, I would love doing my activities with others as long as they are on a compatible level (e.g. similar running speed).
My observations of others doing individual sports show that the majority of runners and cyclists practice alone and I assume that a great portion of them would also prefer exercising in groups.
I researched whether there are apps available who bring together people for sports activities and as I did not find any, I drafted the idea for such an app and designed it myself.
Research
For this case study, i did not do extensive user research how big the user need for such an app is.
As mentioned above, I assumed that there is the need based on my observation seeing many people practicing alone. In a real life project, I would have of course started with an extensive research among individual sportsmen.
In my competitor research, I found many apps supporting sportsmen in planning and recording their activities. However none of them is really focusing on bringing together like-minded people in an easy way for joint activities. Some of them try, but the feature is so hidden or complex that I doubt whether the majority of users are aware or making use of them.
Prototype
Below, you will find the most important flows as screenshots and prototype links. I created a design system based on components and variables and you can easily switch between light and dark mode. All screens are built making extensive use of auto-layout.

Final words
I was testing my prototype with my sports mates and they intuitively understood the purpose of the app without further explanations. The onboarding might be a bit long and might require some fine tuning though.
I personally would love to have such an app at hand, especially when travelling but also to team up with new like-minded people e.g. for a hike in the alps or when running or biking at home.
